A case of rehabilitation of the upper jaw with six implants and bilateral sinus lift and of the lower jaw with four immediate loading implants

The patient came to our Clinic with two very unstable total dentures that did not allow her a correct chewing or an aesthetic comfort in social relationships. This was caused by the lack of bone, both in the upper jaw and the lower jaw, which prevented a correct denture stability.

On the upper jaw, due to a series of extractions in posterior areas, the maxillary sinus reached the level of the bone crest. This problem required a bone lifting of about 1.5 cm on each side before being able to place the implants. Implants on the entire arch were left to heal for about two months, after the six needed for the bone grafting to integrate.

On the lower jaw, the obvious bone resorption in posterior areas, caused by the denture, made it necessary to place four implants in the interforaminal region, two of which, the most posterior ones, were angled; they were used the same day of their placement to insert a fixed temporary denture that, after a period of about four months, was replaced by a fixed denture made of ceramic-metal material, which was subsequently used for the upper jaw.

The work lasted about one year and allowed the patient to have, both on the upper and lower jaw, two fixed dentures of twelve teeth each in ceramic-metal material that, both aesthetically and functionally, have greatly improved the quality of her life.
