Endodontics 

Endodontics is that branch of dental medicine that deals with the devitalization of teeth, i.e. removal of the pulp or dental nerve and replacement with a permanent gutta-percha filling and dental cement.

This procedure is performed after having properly cleaned and removed root canals. Endodontic treatment is necessary if the tooth is severely affected and/or carious, to avoid extracting it and any possible pain, swelling and abscess.
 
The most common symptoms requiring endodontic treatment are tooth sensitivity to hot and/or cold temperatures, chewing pain or possibly the presence of a swelling at the root of the tooth.
